Overview

Writr is a cloud-only writing companion for authors. It requires authentication with Supabase, and notes, Write, and Review features go through a FastAPI backend. Live calls send an Authorization header with a Supabase access token. There is no local or Ollama path. The product includes a Home dashboard for uploading reference notes in PDF, DOCX, TXT, or MD formats, a Write screen for rewriting a session draft using notes and style settings, a Review screen for pasting a scene, bible, or character sheet to get scores and suggestions, and a Settings screen for configuring hosted model badges, Write/Review presets, and sampling options stored in localStorage. The architecture consists of a React 19, Vite 8, TypeScript, Tailwind v4, and shadcn/ui frontend; a FastAPI backend for auth, ingest, embeddings, and inference; and a Tauri 2 desktop shell that is not yet wired to the product UI. Supabase stores profiles, avatars, and reference chunks with embedding vectors. Provider API keys are kept on the server, and Gemini embeddings are preferred when a Gemini API key is set, with OpenAI as fallback.
