Gemma Agents is a local development agent for macOS Apple Silicon, driven by an installed Ollama model. It explores a project, prepares or applies modifications, executes approved validations, and keeps sessions in SQLite. The tool provides an interactive terminal interface with streaming and conversation resumption, project exploration, AGENTS.md instructions, skills, and optional memory. It supports journaled edits, block review, and cancellation with conflict control, as well as plans, persistent tasks, validations, and cron scheduling. Controlled Git tools, expiring permissions, and a macOS sandbox are included, along with a local HTTP/WebSocket API and SQLite storage backup/restore. Prerequisites are macOS Apple Silicon, uv, Python ≥ 3.14.3, Git, and a local Ollama server running with a tool-capable model installed; no model is downloaded by Gemma Agents. The default workspace is ./workspace, which must be separate from runtime code, storage, and skills. Global options like --workspace go before the subcommand. In the interactive terminal, /help shows commands and /review on enables edit review before application. The model can modify workspace files and an approved command can delete them, so backups are advised. The macOS sandbox relies on sandbox-exec, deprecated by Apple; the project has not undergone a security audit against hostile code. The local API must not be exposed to the Internet. It is distributed under the Apache-2.0 license, while models and dependencies retain their own licenses.
