Overview

The Firefly III MCP Server is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that connects a Firefly III personal finance instance to MCP-capable AI clients such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, and Cursor. It allows users to ask financial questions in plain language and have the assistant read from and write to their own Firefly III data. The server exposes 152 operations across 26 entities, reached through 5 meta-tools rather than being exposed individually. Execution is split across three meta-tools by risk — query, mutate, and destructive — and the split is enforced. Every operation declares a strict schema, so unknown parameters are refused rather than silently dropped. Responses strip empty and null attributes, and a fields option keeps only named attributes. Over HTTP, OAuth scopes are approved per connection, and a surface that was not granted is refused as well as hidden from the catalogue.
