Chatballs is an open-source, self-hosted AI platform for customer support. It handles the first line of communication with clients: an AI agent responds based on the company's knowledge base across Telegram, MAX, email, and website chat. When the agent is unsure or a client requests a human, the dialogue is transferred to staff along with a notification. The platform is installed on the user's server with a single command, and customer data remains on that server. The AI model is connected by the user with their own API key. The communication process follows four steps: the client writes in a convenient channel (Telegram, MAX, email, or website chat), all requests appear in a unified dialogue list; the AI agent responds first based on the knowledge base and does not invent answers; if the agent is unsure or the client asks for a human, the dialogue goes to a queue and a notification is sent to a staff member via Telegram or MAX; the staff member responds in the same channel using voice, text, files, or a call directly from the dialogue. Key features include an AI agent configurable in minutes that answers only from the knowledge base, smart handover to humans with three dialogue modes (AI, staff, pause), all channels in one window, a knowledge base with semantic search, a public help center, a website chat widget embeddable with one line of code, audio and video calls from the chat, an operator workspace with priorities and templates, a unified customer card, team roles and access controls, notifications to staff via messenger, self-hosting with any AI model provider, and customer data protection that strips phone numbers, email addresses, and long numeric identifiers before sending to the AI model. Installation requires Linux x86_64, Docker with Compose plugin, and open ports 80 and 443. Updates are done with one button in the interface. The license is AGPL-3.0.
