Overview
Paste MCP is a local Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Paste, the macOS clipboard manager. It gives AI tools such as Claude, Codex, Cursor, and other assistants access to a Mac's clipboard history and pinboards, with the stated design goal that nothing leaves the device. An assistant can search clipboard items, pull one into context, or save its output to a pinboard.
Setup can be done with the add-mcp command, which connects Paste to all installed AI apps, or manually per application (for example, Claude Code and Codex are added with a single command). Paste itself also offers an in-app connection flow under Settings → MCP & AI Tools, where the user clicks Connect AI Tool and chooses an app. The first time an app uses Paste, it asks the user to authenticate and allow access.
On privacy, the README states that Paste MCP runs locally and bridges the AI app to Paste's on-device server, sending nothing to Paste's own servers. Clipboard items only reach AI apps the user approves, and access can be revoked at any time in Settings → MCP & AI Tools.
Requirements are macOS with Paste 6.6+ and MCP enabled in Settings, plus Node.js 18+. The project is released under the MIT license.
