Tool overview

Overview

OpenCLI is an open-source tool (Apache-2.0 license) that converts websites into command-line interfaces and runs browser automation against a user's logged-in Chrome session. It is described as turning websites, browser sessions, Electron apps, and local tools into deterministic interfaces for humans and AI agents. The project offers one surface for three kinds of automation: built-in adapters for popular sites, AI-agent-driven operation of arbitrary websites, and authoring new adapters. Built-in adapters cover sites such as Bilibili, Zhihu, Xiaohongshu, Reddit, HackerNews, and Twitter/X, while desktop app adapters cover Electron apps like Cursor, Trae CN, Codex, Antigravity, ChatGPT, and Trae SOLO. OpenCLI can be installed through the OpenCLIApp desktop application (recommended for macOS and Windows) or via a global npm install for CLI-only, CI, and server use. The npm installation requires Node.js >= 20.18.1. It connects to Chrome/Chromium through a lightweight Browser Bridge extension plus a small local daemon, and a doctor command verifies the setup. For AI agents, OpenCLI provides skills that can be installed into agents such as Claude Code and Cursor, allowing the agent to operate websites on the user's behalf using the logged-in Chrome session. Browser commands include open, state, click, type, fill, select, keys, wait, get, find, extract, frames, screenshot, scroll, back, eval, network, and tab management commands.
