Overview
Maximo Syntax is a terminal-native coding agent for real projects. It accepts a codebase, instructions, and a goal, then plans, edits, runs, and verifies in one focused loop. The CLI can be installed with one command or from npm, and it works on macOS, Linux, and WSL when Node.js 20 or newer is installed. Maximo Syntax Desktop is an early-access native workspace for the same agent, adding agentic chat across projects, diff review, kanban, a real terminal, and CLI features. The macOS and Windows builds ship with the Syntax CLI runtime and their own Node, so onboarding is install-and-code. The desktop app is local-first: sessions and credentials live on the user's machine, with no server copy and no silent sync. It also uses sandboxed permissions, where the renderer has no Node access and every shell, git, and file action runs through a typed bridge with visible permission modes. The product includes Plan Mode, Skills, Subagents, Hooks and automation, MCP and plugins, permission controls, bring-your-own models, and Git plus verification. Users can use Maximo AI and MyTabulon, or connect compatible OpenAI, Gemini, and Ollama endpoints. A free MyTabulon Coding Plan is available with no card required, and it includes Maximo Atlas 1.2 with 2 concurrent requests.
