Overview
MediaForge is a fully local, ultra-lightweight, and offline-first AI Media Agent designed to act as an intelligent bridge between natural language and the FFmpeg processing engine. It combines FFmpeg with a dual-pane interface that includes a chat panel for natural language intent and a transparent terminal for direct code editing and execution. The project is built with Tauri, Rust, and React, and it uses static builds of ffmpeg and ffprobe as sidecars.
MediaForge allows video editors, content creators, and developers to process media files by describing what they want to do without memorizing complex command-line arguments. Its offline-first AI is powered by an embedded Small Language Model running entirely on CPU, which the site says ensures zero latency, maximum privacy, and no internet requirement. A local file explorer provides an interactive directory tree that gives the AI awareness of media files and their metadata via ffprobe.
The Rust backend intercepts and validates every generated command, ensuring only safe ffmpeg, ffprobe, and basic file management commands are executed. The repository currently contains the Frontend SPA structure, and the Rust backend implementation is planned for the next development phase.
