Overview
Anvil is a self-hosted coding-agent prototype with a Python backend and a React workspace. It combines tool execution, source indexing, session storage, and a browser UI for experimenting with local-first development workflows. The system includes bounded tool execution with subprocess timeouts and optional Docker sandboxing, provider abstraction supporting Ollama and Google, source-aware navigation via an AST indexer that records Python symbols in SQLite, verification hooks for project checks, and Git visibility through diff and commit tools. The architecture comprises a FastAPI server, a React/Vite studio UI, an agent loop, an AST indexer, an LLM router, and a sandbox component. Installation requires Python 3.11+, Node.js 18+, and optionally Ollama for fully local offline execution. The project is an active prototype under Apache 2.0 license.
