Overview
VODForge is a free local desktop application for saving YouTube video and audio, building a media library, and watching saved content. It presents one workspace to save media and another to find and play it, with sections for Forge, Library, and Watch. The app is deliberately focused on YouTube videos and playlists today and uses yt-dlp and FFmpeg underneath, without exposing yt-dlp's full multi-site catalog. It is available for Apple Silicon Mac, Intel Mac, and 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11. The desktop app is free and released under the MIT License, with source code on GitHub. Users can browse saved media by playlist or channel and keep source descriptions, tags, notes, and output details together. The Run Deck keeps completed and interrupted runs within reach, while Issues & Recovery helps find moved files or retry an interrupted download with saved settings. Playback is local inside VODForge, allowing users to pick up where they left off and explore saved playlists.

Does VODForge work on Linux?
Not currently. Public builds support macOS 12 or newer and 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Is VODForge really free and open source?
Yes. The desktop app is free and released under the MIT License, with source code on GitHub. VODForge Pro is a separate planned paid service, and joining its interest list is free.

Public macOS builds are Developer ID signed, notarized, and stapled. Windows installers are Authenticode signed by Kryden Ventures, LLC. SHA-256 checksums are published for every release asset.
Does the desktop app require an account?
No account is required for downloading and managing files. The optional analytics choice controls installation, update, attribution, and usage measurement; opt-in and unknown regions require consent. When sharing is enabled, the app uses random identifiers and coarse events that exclude media URLs, titles, filenames, file paths, and file contents. Future usage sharing can be turned off in Settings.
