Overview
Trinity is a personal AI agent that runs on the user's own machine. It is built on Elixir and the BEAM, with Phoenix LiveView for the interface, and ships as a desktop application. The project is Apache-2.0 licensed and developed in the open from the first commit. It is currently pre-alpha and usable from source.
The agent remembers the user, learns procedures, acts through tools under a permission gate, reaches the user on whatever surface they are using, and does not lose work when something crashes. It asks before it acts, showing the arguments it will pass, the risk tier, and a pattern that can be widened. Every effect passes one membrane and leaves a signed, hash-chained receipt that can be verified offline.
Features include streaming chat with any provider behind one behaviour, context compaction, filesystem/web/shell tools, a persona and memory with full-text and semantic search, skills in the agentskills.io format, MCP client and server support, OAuth 2.1 resource server capabilities, gateways, subagents, telemetry and a cost ledger, a Lua sandbox, and scheduled tasks. The interface is a local web page; the desktop shell exists as a packaging spike, not a product.

Use Cases
- Individuals use Trinity to run a personal AI agent locally on their own machine.
- Users use Trinity to approve tool actions through a permission gate that shows the arguments and risk tier before anything runs.
- Auditors use Trinity to verify actions offline via signed, hash-chained receipts.
- Teams use Trinity to connect MCP servers over stdio or Streamable HTTP and to expose Trinity itself as an MCP server.
- Users use Trinity to delegate bounded work to child sessions with their own context and history.
- Users use Trinity to run Lua scripts for computation inside the process without an operating system process, filesystem handle, or socket.
- Users use Trinity to schedule recurring tasks with cron expressions, one-shot times, or natural-language phrases.
- Operators use Trinity to track spending by day, model, session, and persona against budgets.
