Overview
teemoon is an AI chat client that operates without a server. It allows users to run models directly on their phone, connect to their own machine, or use a cloud API key. The app emphasizes privacy by avoiding any teemoon-operated servers, so conversations are not stored or processed by teemoon. It supports on-device models like Gemma 4, as well as remote models via OpenAI-compatible endpoints. For cloud models, teemoon can use end-to-end encryption when connecting to near.ai's TEE fleet, but other providers use plain TLS. The app includes features like attestation checks and a developer mode for debugging. It is available for iPhone with iOS 18.6 and above, with an Android version in development.

Use Cases
- Individuals use teemoon to chat with AI models entirely on their phone without needing an account or API key.
- Users connect teemoon to their own computer over Tailscale to run models on their own hardware.
- Developers use teemoon with cloud API keys to access models while benefiting from end-to-end encryption on near.ai's TEE fleet.
- Privacy-conscious users rely on teemoon's attestation checks to verify that their messages are not copied by the model provider.
- Users enable web search within teemoon by providing their own Brave API key, allowing the model to draft queries.

FAQ
do i have to bring an api key?
No, you can run models like Gemma 4 directly on your phone without an account or key. API keys are only needed for cloud models. Connecting to your own machine via llama.cpp, Ollama, LM Studio, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint also does not require a teemoon key.
are my chats end-to-end encrypted?
End-to-end encryption is only available when using near.ai's TEE fleet; all other providers use plain TLS. The app labels the encryption status on every row, and the receipts cover the failed-check path.
will this thing still be around in two years?
There is no teemoon server that can be shut down, so even if the project ends, the app on your phone will keep running. The source code is available under AGPL-3.0 at github.com/teemoonai/teemoon-ios, and attestation reviews are at github.com/teemoonai/audits.
can i connect my own computer?
Yes, you can connect your own computer over Tailscale (WireGuard) without opening any ports. Add the machine from the 'where' sheet, and the phone can reach it from any network as long as the machine is awake.
can it search the web?
Yes, the model drafts its own queries. If no key is present, the turn that needs the web will offer one. Web search uses Brave LLM context on your own key, never a teemoon account.
