Offscreen RPG is an AI storytelling RPG where a character's life continues while the player is away. The player creates a character in a chosen world and follows their ordinary life, steps into an unfolding story, makes decisions between meetings, or leaves them to their own judgment. The experience can be paused at any time. An LLM storyteller creates scenes, remembers connections, and introduces developments. The browser presents the current scene and story, and a messaging integration could bring occasional updates and choices to the player's phone. The current proof of concept includes persistent drafts, reviewed authored openings, saved choices and waits, and an authored mechanical slice with d20 checks, consequences, and editable storyteller/speed settings. Arbitrary-world generation and the tool-using DM planner remain unimplemented. A scripted browser prototype is available at /demo when the web app is running, allowing exploration of scenes, choices, and chronology without signing in. Its time controls are manual and its state resets on refresh; it is not the persistent game. The project is a senior fullstack portfolio project, with depth intended to come from compelling interaction, coherent persistent stories, reliable background execution, and efficient AI.
