Overview
lean-comments is an Agent Skill that keeps a source-code comment only when it carries information the code and its context cannot. It deletes comments, shortens and rewrites the ones that earn their place, and removes the rest rather than rewording them. The skill applies a necessity test to every ordinary comment, existing or proposed, asking whether a competent maintainer would lose meaningful, non-obvious information if the comment did not exist. It settles necessity before wording, so an unnecessary comment is never polished into a better unnecessary comment, and never promoted into documentation to justify keeping it. The skill handles line comments, doc comments, docstrings, and file headers, and preserves lint, compiler, and license comments until proven obsolete. It can audit a repository on request and checks the diff against 17 criteria, while scoped diffs touch maintained first-party code only and skip generated and vendored content.
