Overview
Gronk is a desktop application that runs a local Grok CLI binary as a child process and communicates with it over ACP. It does not include a backend, bundled credentials, or its own model calls; users sign in with their own Grok account. The app presents two surfaces: Chat, a conversation with no project folder, and Build, which points Grok at a folder where it can read, edit, and run files.
It provides visibility into agent work through tool-call cards, diffs, and status indicators for spawned agents. Before commands or edits run, users see the diff or command and can approve or deny, with deny as the default. Gronk also includes search across Chat and Build, skill discovery, plugin provenance labels, activity heatmaps, session management, a dev-server preview, extension management, file mentions, image paste, drag and drop, and light and dark themes.
It requires the Grok CLI on PATH and a Grok account; Node.js is not required because the installer bundles its own runtime. Security measures include context isolation, no Node integration in the renderer, sender checks in IPC handlers, project-directory confinement for agent file access, and credentials remaining in the Grok CLI. Conversations are stored locally as readable text.
