Overview

George is a local desktop AI assistant built with a GTK4/libadwaita shell. It runs on the user's machine with local Ollama and does not require an API key, cloud call, or telemetry. The project describes itself as Basilisk's brother, sharing the same agent loop, live action feed, and voice stack, with a Jarvis persona instead of a security arsenal. It provides a HUD with gauges, headlines, saved chats, and a model manager. It can use tools for web search, news, weather, system information, shell commands, media, clipboard, screenshots, files, notes, memory, calculations, timers, and speech. Safety is enforced at the execution primitive: destructive commands are refused structurally, and anything that is not read-only asks for one click. The model loads at launch, not at the user's first question, and the engine starts and stops with the app. Voice output uses Piper, espeak-ng, or spd-say, while push-to-talk uses whisper.cpp or faster-whisper if installed. Only speech is sent for transcription. The app supports Linux and Windows installation, with config and data stored locally.
