Overview
generative-a11y is open-source accessibility infrastructure for asynchronous AI interfaces. It provides framework-independent accessibility for the AI interface you already have, adding accessible behavior without replacing the UI or stealing focus. The project normalizes lifecycle events for streaming responses, tool work, focus, and scheduled announcements, so asynchronous AI states can be easier to follow. It is designed to connect to existing AI stacks and interfaces, including AI SDK, assistant-ui, AG-UI, and React. The package set includes core runtime, DOM delivery, React bindings, adapters, and development-only diagnostics. A development-only trace explorer helps debug accessibility behavior before users find the problem, following each update from source to browser delivery without exposing message content. The project is MIT licensed and organized package by package, so users can add only what they need.
