FAQ
What is AirTouch?
It is a macOS app that uses the webcam you already have to control the whole Mac with hand gestures: moving the cursor with the hand, pinching to click, and running ten gestures, with no extra hardware or mouse. It runs on macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple Silicon.
Does AirTouch need any extra hardware or a special camera?
No. It works with the Mac's built-in webcam or any webcam the user already owns, and there is nothing to buy, plug in, or wear.
Which Macs does AirTouch support?
It requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple Silicon Macs and works system-wide, so existing apps are supported automatically because AirTouch drives the macOS cursor itself.
Is AirTouch private? Does it record or upload video?
It is private by design: the camera feed is processed on-device on the Neural Engine, each frame becomes 21 hand landmarks that are discarded within milliseconds, and nothing the camera sees leaves the Mac — no video, images, or analytics, no account and no cloud. Tapping esc twice releases the camera instantly.
Is AirTouch free? Do I need an account?
Yes, it is completely free and open source, with no account, sign-in, or subscription; downloading it unlocks every feature.
What gestures can AirTouch do?
It ships with ten built-in gestures — Wake (peace sign), Point (move the cursor), Click (pinch), Scroll (two fingers), Swipe (switch apps), OK (Enter), Apps (fist opens Spotlight), Snap (close the window), Zoom (two-hand frame), and Telepath (two fingers to your temple for dictation) — and users can record any custom pose and bind it to a shortcut, script, or app.
What is Telepath?
Telepath is AirTouch's hands-free dictation: touching two fingers to the temple lets the Mac take dictation in any text field of any app, turning speech into clean, punctuated, filler-free text at around 220 words a minute, roughly 4× faster than typing.
