Overview
aimai-chartmaker is a project that provides a workflow and knowledge system for creating custom charts for the rhythm game maimai DX. It does not train or develop an independent chart generation model. Instead, it relies on a strong AI model (coding agent) to directly create charts that meet specified requirements after receiving an MP3 track, using the project's analysis tools and charting experience. The input is an MP3 audio file (with metadata such as BPM, offset, and speed changes optionally provided by the user), and the output is a maidata.txt file containing chart data in simai syntax, created by the model within the workflow. The project aims to deliver charts that satisfy hard acceptance criteria: correct syntax (zero errors and warnings after validation), human playability, reasonable hand sequencing, and adherence to charting standards (difficulty distribution similar to official charts, emotional progression, accurate rhythm alignment, and appropriate section structure). The current status is in the knowledge and tool building phase, with completed components including simai syntax specification, error checking logic, ST chart element chronology, audio analysis pipeline design and prototype, official chart density benchmarks, hand assignment model, and a knowledge base of charting cognition. Ongoing work includes expanding the knowledge base, iterating analysis tools, and developing the chart generation and validation pipeline.

Use Cases
- Developers use the audio analysis tools to extract onset grids, structural segments, and intensity curves from audio files.
- Chart designers use the hand assignment model to ensure charts follow human hand sequencing rules.
- Researchers use the official chart density benchmarks to calibrate intensity-to-density mapping for chart generation.
- Chart checkers use the seven-layer chart checker to validate syntax, hand sequence, configuration, density, sampling, depth, and static unreasonableness.
- Knowledge base maintainers use the atomic knowledge entries to document charting cognition with dates, reasons, sources, confidence, and revision records.
