Acadex is an AI-powered academic study companion that helps students organize their study material and learn from their own PDFs using AI. It brings together study-material organization, PDF viewing, and AI-powered learning assistance in one application, so students do not need to switch between folders, PDFs, notes, and AI tools. The application allows students to create and manage subjects according to their academic curriculum, upload and store PDF study material under individual subjects, and read PDFs directly inside the application. Acadex AI lets students ask questions about their uploaded PDFs and receive student-friendly explanations. It also generates revision-friendly summaries containing main topics, important concepts, definitions, formulas, examples, and exam-oriented points, explains difficult concepts step-by-step in simple language, and generates exam-oriented questions categorized by importance and question type. Acadex uses OpenAI's API together with file search capabilities. When a student asks a question about a PDF, the PDF is prepared for AI processing, the study material is stored in an OpenAI vector store, the question is sent to the AI, relevant information is retrieved from the uploaded material, and Acadex AI generates a student-friendly response grounded in the student's study material. The tech stack includes Python for application logic, Streamlit for the web application interface, OpenAI API for AI-powered learning assistance, OpenAI File Search for searching uploaded study material, JSON for local subject/data storage, and python-dotenv for environment variable management.
